چکیده

Dealing with the high bit error rates and narrow bandwidths that typify wireless communications was not within the design goals of the Internet protocols TCP and IP. The wireless application protocol (WAP) was introduced to make better use the wireless channel and was designed using a split-connection scheme where WAP is only used for the wireless interface. This paper shows and discusses the characteristics and performance attributes of the WAP protocol along with a comparison in performance with TCP on end-to-end connection schemes. Results obtained show that WAP can be more efficient than TCP/IP not only under noisy wireless conditions but also on wired connections as well.

A proxy architecture to enhance the performance of WAP 2.0 by data compression

This paper presents a novel architecture for Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0 employing a proxy to isolate the wireless domain from the wired domain, and an advanced data compression scheme to significantly reduce the wireless access time (WAT) while overcoming the WAP 1.x end-to-end security problem. The compression scheme combines content compression with robust header compression (ROH...

An Assessment Scheme for ELT Performance: An Iranian Case of Farhangian University

Accountability concerns in language education call for the development of more valid and authentic measures of assessment. In light of these concerns, performance assessment has received increasing interest in the context of teacher education programs and teacher licensing over the last decade. In Iran, a recent policy adopted by Farhangian University aims at assessing the professional competen...

Towards a Task-Based Assessment of Professional Competencies

Performance assessment is exceedingly considered a key concept in teacher education programs worldwide. Accordingly, in Iran, a national assessment system was proposed by Farhangian University to assess the professional competencies of its ELT graduates. The concerns regarding the validity and authenticity of traditional measures of teachers' competencies have motivated us to devise a localized...

An Adaptive-Robust Control Approach for Trajectory Tracking of two 5 DOF Cooperating Robot Manipulators Moving a Rigid Payload

In this paper, a dual system consisting of two 5 DOF (RRRRR) robot manipulators is considered as a cooperative robotic system used to manipulate a rigid payload on a desired trajectory between two desired initial and end positions/orientations. The forward and inverse kinematic problems are first solved for the dual arm system. Then, dynamics of the system and the relations between forces/momen...

Integrated Transport Layer Security: End-to-End Security Model between WTLS and TLS

WAP is a set of protocols that optimizes standard TCP/IP/HTTP/HTML protocols, for use under the low bandwidth, high latency conditions often found in wireless networks. But, end-to-end security is not supported unless a WAP gateway is operated by the content provider. We propose ITLS mechanism to solve the WAP security problem. The goal of ITLS is to prohibit the WAP gateway from having the pla...
